Workflow for wedding photographer
A lot of people are asking me about my wedding photography workflow, it seems that a lot of people are approaching the wedding photography business. There a lot of different workflow that you can adopt but surely one thing that a photography workflow will help you is optimizing your time and avoiding mistakes.
Here my wedding photography workflow:
PRE– WEDDING
- 3 days before the wedding
- I usually phone to the bride to check that everything it’s ok and that there are no changing in the plan of the wedding day
- I phone to my assistant to arrange everything
- 1 day before the wedding
- Charge camera batteries
- Charge AA batteries for flashes
- Format memory cards
- Check all my camera settings (programs, customized programs, ISO, and Raw file format)
- Sync cameras clocks
- Prepare my backpack
- Print the plan of the day for me and my assistant with all useful addresses and phone numbers
- Save in my GPS system all the locations
WEDDING DAY
- I usually change batteries and memory cards at regular intervals
- After bride and groom houses
- After the church
- My assistant take care of my equipment and of my memory cards
- I have a plan in my mind is like creating an essay for a magazine using a narrative approach
Wedding Photography Workflow
AFTER THE WEDDING
- I take all the memory cards and place them near the computer
- I download them to the computer in a single folder ordered by date created
- I open the folder in bridge and I rename all the files in this way PhotographerSurname_AAMM_DD_0001 where AA year, MM month , DD day + progressive number
- First security and temporary backup
- Open Lightroom, I usually create 1 catalog for each wedding
- Keywording inside Lightroom
- Rating inside Lightroom
- Developing pictures with > 0 stars
- Preparing on line gallery with http://slideshowpro.net/ Lightroom plug – in
- Writing Keywords to file in Lightroom
- Archiving files in a Drobo (raid) an third backup on external HD
- Import all the files in Expression Media catalog
- Delete security and temporary backup (point 4)
- Send everything to brides and groom
I use a similar workflow also for my editorial works, I believe that this kind of workflow could work for digital photography in a wide way ant that is really fine as a workflow for wedding photography.
A lot of wedding photographer use it (almost all my ex assistants).
